CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. Unlike SGPA which measures a single semester, CGPA aggregates your academic performance across all completed semesters of your B.Tech program at BEU. It is the most important metric used by employers and higher education institutions to evaluate your overall performance.

The CGPA Formula

CGPA = Σ(Semester SGPA × Semester Credits) / Σ(Total Credits of All Semesters)

Alternatively, CGPA can be calculated by dividing the cumulative grade points earned across all semesters by the cumulative credits attempted. This ensures that semesters with higher credit loads have proportionally greater weight in your final CGPA.

Step-by-Step CGPA Calculation

    Collect All Semester DataGather your SGPA and total credits for each completed semester from your BEU grade cards.

CGPA to Percentage Conversion

Many employers and universities ask for your percentage equivalent. BEU follows the standard conversion formula used by most Indian universities:

Equivalent Percentage = CGPA × 9.5

  • CGPA 10.0 → 95%
  • CGPA 9.5 → 90.25%
  • CGPA 8.0 → 76%
  • CGPA 7.0 → 66.5%
  • CGPA 6.0 → 57%

Tips to Improve Your CGPA

  • Focus on High-Credit Subjects: A single 4-credit course affects your CGPA four times more than a 1-credit lab. Prioritize core subjects.
  • Clear Backlogs Quickly: An F grade (0 points) significantly drags down your CGPA. Clear all backlogs at the earliest opportunity.
  • Maintain Consistency: It is easier to maintain a high CGPA from the start than to raise a low CGPA later due to the cumulative weight of earlier semesters.
  • Use Revaluation Wisely: If you are within 5-10 marks of a higher grade boundary, applying for revaluation can meaningfully boost your SGPA and thus your CGPA.
