UGEAC Choice Filling Guide — How to Fill Choices Smartly

Learn the optimal strategy for filling out your UGEAC choices for BEU engineering admissions. Maximize your chances of getting your preferred branch.

Choice filling is the most critical part of the UGEAC counselling process. A poor choice-filling strategy can result in you getting a lower-tier college despite having a good JEE Main rank.

Rule #1: Priority Matters

The seat allotment algorithm processes your choices strictly from top to bottom. It will assign you the highest choice on your list where a seat is available for your rank and category. Therefore, always place your most desired colleges at the very top, regardless of whether you think you can get them.

Rule #2: The Safe Bets

Always include a few "Safe" colleges at the bottom of your list. These are colleges where your rank is significantly better than the previous year's cutoff. This ensures you don't end up unassigned in the first round.

Rule #3: Use Historical Data

Don't guess. Look at the exact closing ranks from the previous year for your specific category (UR, EBC, BC, SC, ST) to gauge your chances accurately.

#2
DCE Darbhanga

#3
GEC Siwan
Mechanical Engineering · closing 22,000

How it works: UGEAC scans your choices from #1 downward. The first college where your rank ≤ closing rank is locked. This is why order matters — putting a safety at #1 means you never reach reach options below it.
