UGEAC Cutoff Analysis

How JEE Main percentiles translate to admission cutoffs in Bihar government engineering colleges.

How UGEAC Cutoffs Work

Unlike JOSAA or CSAB, which use All India Ranks (CRL), the **BCECE Board** creates a state-specific merit ranking based on JEE Main percentile scores of candidates who register for UGEAC.

Therefore, college cutoffs are published as **UGEAC State Ranks (UR and Category Ranks)**, not JEE Main ranks.

UR Rank vs Category Rank

Every candidate gets an **Unreserved (UR) rank**. Reserved category candidates (SC, ST, BC, EBC, EWS, RCG, DQ) also get a **Category Rank**.

Note: Cutoff lists show both ranks. If you belong to a category, you can secure a seat using either your UR cutoff or your category cutoff.

Key Factors Influencing Cutoffs

  • Branch DemandComputer Science (CSE) and CSE-Specializations (AI, Cyber Security) have the highest demand, with cutoffs closing at low state ranks. Core branches like Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical close at much higher ranks.
  • College ReputationElite institutes like **MIT Muzaffarpur** and **BCE Bhagalpur** consistently command top ranks, while newer Government Engineering Colleges (GECs) in remote locations have flexible cutoffs.

FAQs

Where can I check official cutoff lists?

Official cutoff rankings are uploaded by the BCECE board on their website under the name "UGEAC Opening and Closing Ranks" after each admission round.

Does my JEE Main rank matter directly?

No. Your JEE Main percentile determines your state rank, but colleges select candidates based purely on their state-issued UGEAC rank.
