UGEAC Merit List 2026

A complete walkthrough of how the BCECE Board prepares the UGEAC merit list, what your rank card means, and how it determines your admission.

What is the UGEAC Merit List?

The UGEAC Merit List is a state-specific ranking of all candidates who registered for UGEAC counselling. It is published by the BCECE Board after the registration window closes. The merit list converts your JEE Main Paper 1 percentile into two ranks — an Unreserved (UR) rank and, if applicable, a Category rank (SC, ST, BC, EBC, EWS, RCG, DQ).

Unlike the JEE Main All India Rank, which considers candidates nationwide, the UGEAC merit list only includes candidates who registered for Bihar counselling. This means your UGEAC rank is almost always better (lower number) than your JEE Main CRL rank.

How Ranks are Calculated

BCECE ranks candidates strictly based on their JEE Main Paper 1 percentile. The percentile is normalized and then sorted to produce the following:

Rank Calculation Formula

  • UR Rank (Unreserved): Your position among all UGEAC applicants regardless of category. This is the primary rank used for general seat allocation.
  • Category Rank: Your position among applicants from your specific reserved category (e.g. BC, EBC, SC). This rank is used for category-specific seat allocation.
  • No Separate Exam: There is no state-level entrance test. JEE Main percentile is the sole criteria for merit list preparation.

UR Rank vs Category Rank

Understanding the difference between these two ranks is crucial for strategic choice filling:

UR Rank (Unreserved)

  • Your overall rank among all applicants
  • Used for General (UR) quota seats
  • 100% of seats compete on UR rank
  • Higher rank number = lower merit

Category Rank

  • Your rank within your reserved category
  • Used for category-specific quota seats
  • Reserved candidates compete in both UR and Category pools
  • Category ranks are usually lower (better) than UR ranks
